Oppo just announced 2 new mid-range smartphones, the Neo 5 (2015) and the Neo 5s, both offer premium style in an affordable package.

Oppo has added two more mid-range handsets to their portfolio, the Neo 5 (2015) and the Neo 5s. The mid-range devices come with the design of Oppo’s premium device Oppo R1x but with a more affordable package. The biggest question right now is what do they offer ? and what is the difference between the Oppo Neo 5 (2015) and the Neo 5s? Well the difference is a lot smaller than one might think, but does make an impact on the device itself. The difference between the two phones is that the Oppo Neo 5 has a MediaTek MT6582 chipset with a quad-core 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 processor and daul-core Mali-400MP2 GPU and the Neo 5s runs on 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon S410 paired with a quad-core 1.2Ghz Cortex-A53 processor and Adreno 306 GPU. The reason behind those 2 different processors is that the Neo 5s comes with regional band LTE-support, which the Neo 5 (2015) won’t have.

If you leave the processor on the side both phones are nearly identical, so let’s take a look at the rest of the specs. They come with a 4.5 inch IPS Display with a 854 x 480 pixel resolution which just offers a pixel density of 218 ppi. The chosen processor will be backed up by 1GB of RAM and in terms of saving capacities they offer 8GB of internal storage that can be expended to up to 32 GB or 128 GB , depending on what model you will be choosing. Well but let’s look at what’s really important, the camera. On the back the Oppo Neo 5 (2015) and the Neo 5s offer an 8 Mp camera with a f/2.2 lens and a single LED flash, the front camera has 2 MP and a f/2.8 lens, I’d say that is pretty acceptable for a mid-range smartphone. Aside from the usual list of sensors and connectivity options, it’s quite notable that both devices come with Bluetooth v4.1 and a 2000 mAh Battery.

Oppo will be adding quite a list of gesture based actions to it’s new handsets, like taking a screenshot with a three-finger swipe anywhere on the screen or perform commands, like waking up the device or taking a picture, even if the phone is locked.

Well so much about similarities, let’s talk about the exclusive stuff on the Oppo Neo 5s. The 64-bit snapdragon allows the Neo 5s to have a couple of extra abilities, like the expanded storage capacity up to 128 GB that I mentioned earlier. The Neo 5s also offers eye-protection features, since Oppo developed a filtering system into its color OS that filters out harmful blue light, which enables the user to look at the screen for a long time without any health issues. In addition to that Oppo gave the Neo 5s a feature called “ Colorful Night Shot“ which adds different frames to one picture to produce a brighter and clearer image when taking pictures in the night or other low-light environments.

At this point both devices will be shipped with Android 4.4.2 KitKat with the ColorOS v2.0.1 running on top. Unfortunately we don’t have any information yet on when it will be available and how much it will be, but as soon as we know, you will know . So stay tuned =)
